There is a huge problem online with folks doing whatever they can to promote their online little businesses, and it's gotten to the point that they plagiarize content, use brand names, steal content, and borrow well-known people's names. Let me tell you of a problem that is brewing online that is getting a little bit out of control.
As an extremely prolific online article writer, I have built a pretty good brand name, which happens to be my personal name. Yet, what I've found is that my content has been stolen, re-worked, and used by those who wish to make little trickle payments from AdSense or worse, sell some sort of scammy trinkets online.
Recently, I noted that someone had borrowed my Personal Name (brand name) and had begun posting articles at a substandard article directory site, and in the byline took the Internet Surfers to a less than legitimate web-site. When I contacted the owner of the directory site they emailed back under the name of "Admin" which is indeed, a bit shady, as no name was given; what are they hiding from.
So, now we have bogus authors hiding, using other people's names posting at illegitimate directory-article-sites with folks running these sites who are most likely less than legitimate themselves. Worse, no one is monitoring this, or the fraud that is being perpetuated - all using other people's names and reputation.
When contacting the article-admin of this website, he or she writes back to me: "There can be many people in the world with the same name. If he is not actually using his real name and using your name then you should contact him directly that why he is doing this as we are not responsible of who he is and what he is posting at our site. Also he would be posting his articles on many other article directories. It would also be difficult for you to ask every directory owner to remove his articles. You can contact him by going to the sites he is promoting. We do not share or give our authors' personal emails to third parties. If he is submitting articles written by you then we can remove those articles. Hope you will understand this."
Interesting isn't it, what we have here is a boat load of excuses as to why the directory site is not liable for the fraud they are allowing, and why they cannot do anything about it. Incidentally, I was unable to contact the individual, who used my name, as there was no way to contact them on their website. Well, this should be a lesson to all about the difficulty in defending your reputation, your name and maintaining your brand name. Please consider this.
