I'm afraid of losing the first game I play on my new chess set...?
I know this may sound childish, etc. but this is really making me upset and nervous.
I just ordered this awesome chess set from Staunton, and a really nice board that I love.
I always play my dad, and I can't stand losing. I feel bad every time I lose...
Anyway, I'm absolutely terrified of losing the first game I play on my new chess set... Like if I lose the first game on it I'll feel like I let everyone down who really knew I liked chess enough to get it for me...
So how do I tell him that I don't want him to be the first person I play on it? Nicely without him feeling bad? (He's the one who bought it for me and who I always play chess with)
Just tell him that you are superstitious and don't want to lose the first game. Tell him that he is an awesome player and the risk is just too high.
Complimenting him and tell him what a great player he is will soften it considerably.
