What are some games like oblivion and/or star wars: KOTOR?
Are there any games for xbox 360 like oblivion and/or star wars: knights of the old republic? Like a game where you chose what decisions to make.
Excellent question. If you'll forgive the 'history lesson', look up any and all games by these publishers: Bioware, Obsidian Entertainment, Black Isle Studios, Troika Games, inXile Entertainment, and Interplay (well, Interplay while under the lead of Brian Fargo... not Interplay under the lead of Herve Caen). There's a reason for these particular publishers. All of them were either influenced by, or were directly led by, Brian Fargo (who, for over the past 25 years, has had his hand in developing or producing a very *large* portion of games where "choices and consequences" plays a major role), and if not him specifically, there have been dev team members who were under his lead at one time, who went on to make games in similar veins.
There's three particular games you *must* play, if this genre appeals to you: Fallout 1 (2 and 3 as well, but mainly 1), Planescape: Torment, and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magicka Obscura. By die-hard RPG fans, these are called "The Big Three", as *very* few games before or since have come remotely close to the level of gritty reality in FO1, the storyline of PS:T, or the ingenuity of Arcanum.
If you like "The Big Three", then check out Temple of Elemental Evil. It was designed by the same leads for Fallout (who made the now-defunct Troika Games). While it's definitely got its shortcomings as far as stability and bugs go, it's considered one of the best D&D games out there. Also, Troika made Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. I haven't played it myself, though one of these days, I'd like to, as it follows in ToEE's and FO1's footsteps.
Then there's Black Isle Studios, and all of their AD&D games, such as Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. While not truly in the KotOR or Fallout vein, they do emphasize choice, even if they're lacking a bit in consequences.
Obsidian Entertainment and Bioware are the remnants of what once was BIS, Obsidian has KotOR 2 (which, honestly, was a rush-job by LucasArts, it is still an excellent game if you don't mind the hurried and disjointed ending), as well as Fallout: New Vegas (Fallout 3 was made by Bethesda, who also made TES:Oblivion. FO:NV uses the FO3 engine, but is intended to reflect the fans' wants of a FO reminiscent of FO1); and Bioware has Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age: Origins (DA:O is a LOT like the big three... but not quite enough to turn it into "The Big Four"), and Star Wars: The Old Republic (an MMO set 300 year after the events in KOTOR, will probably be released in Spring 2011).
Finally, inXile has made The Bard's Tale (a re-envisioning of a game of the same name from 1988), which plays like an action adventure RPG (like Zelda or Gauntlet), but also has choices and consequences in the form of "Snarky" and "Nice" responses. It's more poking fun of the cliched RPG genre, than a serious game in of itself, but if you like movies like The Princess Bride or Robin Hood: Men In Tights, it's worth a playthrough, at least once or twice. There is also evidence that Brian Fargo is making a reimagined Wasteland, or possibly a Wasteland 2... the game that started the whole concept of choices and consequences. The details on it are still *very* hush-hush, but I'm waiting for it with bated breath (some people have waited 10 years for Duke Nukem Forever... I've waited 22 years for Wasteland 2, it was *that* good for its time. ^_~).
So, tl;dr version:
Fallout 1, 2, 3, and New Vegas. - must haves.
Planescape: Torment. - must have.
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magicka Obscura. - must have.
Temple of Elemental Evil
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Baldur's Gate series
Icewind Dale series
KotOR 2 and SW:TOR
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Dragon Age: Origins - really should get
The Bard's Tale
The upcoming Wasteland remake/re-imagining/sequel.
...and as a side note, consider The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, TES: Daggerfall, and TES: Arena. They are the predecessors to Oblivion. Arena is alright; Daggerfall is (imho) the best of the series due to its massive amounts of customization available, the huge landscape, and the massive roguelike dungeons (albeit it's the buggiest as well); and Morrowind is considered by critics the best of the series (although it's not in a traditional fantasy setting, which put me off some).
