Most people that start playing Warhammer 40,000 have a couple decisions they need to make. What kind of army do I want to play? What models will I need first? There are a lot of people that choose space marines. In this article I'll give you reasons why you should use the Space Wolves chapter of space marines. The wolves have many great advantages in context of the game. They also have some of the coolest models available. They are great in close combat, have cheap heavy weapons troops and have very tough HQ choices. I'll be discussing these in more detail below.
Close combat is a very big part of Warhammer 40k. Most armies are either shooting type armies or close combat. Sometimes they are a bit of both. The Space Wolves can do either, but they are pretty good at hand to hand combat. Nothing says your dead. like a thunder hammer upside the head. The armament of the wolves allows them to be more proficient in close combat combat than other armies. This is due to the planet they are from and the climate. On their home planet every day life is a struggle, so it makes the perfect place to find young recruits for the wolves.
Though the Space Wolves may be good in close combat, don't take their shooting abilities lightly. Their heavy weapons troops, the long fangs, are some of the best troops in the game. This is another great reason to use the wolves. Their ability to field heavy weapons that are low points cost, makes them very useful. Their ability to fire at two separate targets is pretty nice too.
Last, the Space Wolves have very tough HQ choices. The leaders of the wolves can be armed in many different ways to tackle many different opponents. This allows them to be very versatile. They can be armed to fight monstrous creatures, take out vehicles, or take on lots of infantry at once. Attach them to a squad and they become even harder to kill. Just make sure you don't spend too many points on your hq choices in one game. Otherwise you won't have enough squads and vehicles to support them.
In closing, the reasons to use the Space Wolves in Warhammer 40,000 are many. This is just a small number of reasons to select them as your army. If your looking for an army that's good in close combat the wolves are far above most other space marine chapters in the game. You also may be looking for cheap heavy weapons troops. The wolves have these guys in the form of long fangs. Maybe you just want an HQ choice that is a juggernaut of complete destruction? Well you can make one with the wolves codex. Of course, these are just some of the reasons to use the Space Wolves.
