what do you think of these rules?
Only people who plays warhammer 40k can answer this question.
According to him there are rules that say you must spread the number of wounds amongst your squad. He normally uses a space marine devastator squad with 4 rocket launchers and has this thing were he can launch all rockets in one scatter role and the blast marker is small and he places it on my firewarriors and hits 3 he then rolls the number of wounds 4 times and he obviously kills my 3 firewarriors he then told me that any other wounds left over must be applied to the other squad members.
This is pathetic, bassically if there is 12 people and you pound 3 dead bodies twice doesnt mean you can magically kill someone standing on the far end. Sometimes you can bend the rules when your playing a private game and I have always argued against that rule as it doesnt make sense!
Who agrees with me that this rule is not based on common sense
That isn't how the rule works.
He should roll the scatter dice + 2D6 for the first missile launcher that can see a model in the target unit. Resolve the hit/scatter and count how many models are hit. Repeat until all of his Devastators have fired, including with any bolt weapons too. Then you allocate hits to your unit as per the wound allocation rules, and yes models that weren't under the templates can be allocated wounds.
This is called an abstract rule. It assumes there is chaos and movement on the battlefield and rockets are coming in and blasting everything apart as your Firewarriors hunkle down around the area where they are positioned. From a gaming rule perspective it is a fair rule that makes sense. Unfortunately 40K uses a mixture of abstract and literal rules that make things seem weird and silly at times. True line of sight is a literal rule, for example, the models are where they are and you can only shoot what you see, but then when it comes to wounding things are abstract and models are in an area where they can be wounded. Doesn't help that they change this area of rules every edition either.
