Being an Optimist.
Do you get up singing a different song each morning? Do you listen to the birds out performing each other in the dawn chorus? Do you go to work with a smile on your face and a spring in your step ready for whatever the new day brings? Do you buy a lottery ticket and always think you're going to win? If you do any or all of those things, then the chances are you're an optimist.
It must be harder being an optimist during a recession. What is there to be optimistic about? That's the difference between an optimist and a pessimist. The optimist will believe that things will improve while the pessimist will think things will only get worse. Take the saying, There's light at the end of the tunnel (optimist), Let's hope it's not a train (pessimist).
Seriously, there are benefits to being an optimist;
1. They seem to suffer less stress, possibly because of their positive take on everyday situations and problems.
2. They seem to enjoy more success. Maybe that's because they always believe that they will succeed eventually and so keep on trying where a pessimist would just give up too easily.
3. Optimists make better friends. They are fun to be around and always see the good in people.
4. They seem to enjoy better health and even if they become ill appear to get better more quickly; again perhaps because of their positive attitude.
An optimist is someone who gets chased up a tree by a lion, but enjoys the view (Walter Winchell) adapted. So always look on the bright side of life. Go on give it a try. It's much more fun being an optimist.
