At first glance, chess doesn't seem too complicated. There is a board, game pieces, and rules, in theory once you learn the rules, playing game should be easy, no more complicated than playing a game of Monopoly. However, once you start playing chess you quickly learn that there is a great deal more to successfully playing chess than memorizing the rules. Chess was invented to help military leaders learn about battle strategy, in order to win the game; you need to learn how to think like a general.

The big part of the game is analyzing what is happening on the board and trying to predict what your opponent is going to do next. If you are playing against someone who is a really good chess player, you tend to get even more stressed.
The chess party makes it difficult to get stressed over the analysis part of the game, mostly because from time to time someone will say or do something that will distract you. The distraction, no matter how brief, gives your mind a moment to process what is happening on the board and usually makes everything seem much clearer than it did before.
Even if you don't get the hang of playing chess during the chess party, you will have at least had an opportunity to hang out with people whose company you enjoy, which is never a waste of time.
