METAL:
There are many styles of metal chess pieces ranging from classic Staunton pieces to less traditional, yet equally stunning, metal chessmen in unique styles such as Persian, Roman Bust or Renaissance. Metal chess pieces are typically made of brass or nickel. They are generally more costly than a wooden chess set, but are a fabulous option if you are in the market for a long-lasting, sturdy, and highly durable set.
STONE:
Stone is yet another favorite material for chess sets all over the world. Marble and alabaster are two popular materials used in creating stone chess sets. Alabaster and marble sets are excellent choices, not only for chess enthusiasts but for those who want a stunning decorative centerpiece. They are sturdy and heavily weighted, and made to take center stage in any room! These sets will last for generations.
And lastly, one non-traditional, final option in the game of chess that is widely available today, is electronic chess.
