Are you looking for the perfect pocket tool? Maybe perfect is too strong a word, so how about a really good pocket tool?
The Leatherman wave is about as good as it gets, with 17 tools inside it's ready for almost any job.
The wave is Leathermans best selling multitool, and probably the best selling pocket tool in the world, made from stainless steel, which is stainless, not stain proof! And will get rusty given the right conditions, such as a life on a boat for a fisherman, but if that is an issue Leatherman also do a black oxide version which is prepared the same way as a gun barrel, after the black oxide treatment the components are assembled ensuring every tool is given as much protection as possible.
The Leatherman wave weighs a mere 241 grams or if you prefer 8.5 ounces which is hardly back breaking, and is 4 inches or about 10 centimetres long, which is tiny, but obviously for some people that might be a bit heavy or bulky for the pocket. Don't worry Leatherman do a range of much lighter pocket tools as well but may lack all of the features of the Wave.
The knife blades are accessible without opening the tool up and can be accessed with one hand if the other is busy, which is great for fixing things in a tight spot by yourself. All the tools and the knife blades lock into place and feel like they wont move until you unlock them which is very reassuring and also lacking on Leatherman imitators which are likely to remove the end of your finger if you are not careful.

It feels like it's made to last and Leatherman think so too because they give their tools a 25 year guarantee, now how many products these days come with a guarantee like that? Most products give a year or two and you have to pay to extend the warranty, this fact was one of the reasons I chose Leatherman.
There are cheaper tools you could buy, the wave has lots of competition from companies like Victorinox who make the 'Swiss army' knives and Gerber, Wenger and DMT also make very good pocket tools, but for build quality and guarantee I don't think Leatherman can be beaten, on top of that they are made in the USA, in Oregon to be exact, and in these times of global recession buying American and protecting American jobs might also influence your decision.
The Wave comes with a nylon or leather pouch, which fits onto your belt, mine is permanently attached as I use it every day in my electrical work and honestly I would be lost without it.
