Mini RC helicopters are an important hobby for many people. These miniature helicopters have the functionality of a regular sized helicopter and provide a lot of excitement to fans of the sport as their pilots take their mini choppers into the air and perform many maneuvers.
There are numerous types of Mini RC choppers but the most ubiquitous models are the Exceed G2 (Version 2) and OS 91 for F3C Competition. The Exceed boasts a 400 Class brushless electric 6-Channel ready to fly chopper. It takes minutes to set up and comes with a high quality FM radio system. It has an advanced pitch controller to let you fly in any direction - even inverted. The OS 91 has 91HZ F3C Competition Helicopter Engine and is purpose built for competition flying. This is a high power chopper with enhanced stability.
There are basically two ways to get into Miniature Remote controlled helicopters. You can select the entire unit from your local shop (these are known as 'RTF' or 'ready to fly' models) or buy the components and assemble one for yourself. If you choose to assemble the complete chopper yourself, you will need to acquaint yourself with how the chopper goes together. They are no different from a full sized chopper. The manual that comes with the parts will provide much of this information but you should also have a exhaustive understanding of the mechanics. If you choose to set up your own chopper, you will need to make certain that all of the parts are correctly fitted prior to take off.
Learning to fly a remote control helicopter is easy. With a few hours of practice, you will be off to some great flying. The two most critical maneuvers are take off and hover. Once you master these two techniques, everything else should come easy. Again, these are the maneuvers that you'll be doing most. If you want to get some flying experience without risking your own chopper, you can use a helicopter simulator to learn the basics. A PC simulator will also show you how to execute all of the maneuvers that the chopper will allow you to accomplish. Again, there is no risk.
You should know that the skills for flying Miniature Remote controlled choppers and maintaining them in the air are the same as those required by a regular helicopter pilot would so there are some precautions to take when flying these little beasts. The blades of the machine can rotate at up to 1300 rpm, meaning that they have the potential to sever a toe or other part of the body. They can rip clothing that comes within its path. You will need to gain competency with the machine before you conduct your first flight in front of bystanders, otherwise you may cause serious bodily harm to them.
Also, remember that Mini RC helicopters use radios. In some jurisdictions you'll have to notify the FCC about your intended use, although today this is rare.
Always keep the Mini Remote controlled helicopter away from you. Many experts suggest that you maintain about thirty feet distance when flying your helicopter. You will find this measure practical in the event that the helicopter crashes onto the ground.
