The marines are extremely cheap, very very cheap! That's what makes them one of the more effective infantry units in the terran strategy game. These are the most basic of the terran army, and they play an absolute vital role when it comes to Terran Marine strategy.
First of all, it is important to know that they have a base life of 45 hp, and their armored suits can be upgraded three times, this can mean the difference, especially if you are playing a level similar to you in strategy.
The marines in the game wear suits that protect them in dangerous environment. They provide the marine with a base life of 45. The suits play a vital role in protecting the player and though they don't give them armor, they can be upgraded up to three times.
The rifles of the marines can do quite a bitch of damage to your enemy, they are very cheap and when these rifles are actually massed and accumulated, they can do a huge deal of damage and destroy major buildings as a group. You want to make sure that you create a huge swarm of these marines so that you can destroy these zerglings and zealots and get the problem away before it even gets started.
Okay Enough With the Basic Stuff, How about Micro'ing Marines
Okay, one of the better skills you can develop is to actually micro manage the units in order to keep them alive in battle, it's easier to focus on micro managing as long as you have hotkeyed your production buildings and making sure they are ready go to so you can pay attention to the many wars on different fronts.
When to Micro the Units
The question is this: when should I micro manage my units? Well, this isn't something that's necessary 100% of the time, but it can be a lot of the time, first of all, you want to make sure that you use micro when your units have more range than your opponents range. When you are dealing with melee units like zerglings & marines, that like to swarm melee, it's best to keep your range with marines and marauders so that you will maintain that advantage.
Once a swarm of zerglings surround your marauders or marines, it's pretty much a wrap like Christmas, your done, so keep yoru range. One thing that I like doing is splitting my team into two groups and force the enemy to go after one group, this way you can force one group to run and fire and another group can actually flank and simply do all the damage possible.
It's kind of like a mini chess match within a gigantic chess match, which makes it such a great game.
Extra Tips
If you buy marauders make sure that you buy concussive shell upgrade at the barracks tech lab so that the marauder shots actually slow down the target and makes kiting much easier (kiting is the hit and run tactic we are referring to). Stim packs, with marauders can make kiting a ton more easier, especially when it comes to trying to go against zerglings.
This tactic is nice, and I love it! Marauders are hard for roaches to counter as well, and marauders can also kite roaches because they have a range of 6 while roaches are only 3, just stay out of range, and that's key to winning!
