Being an Army chaplain is a very rewarding and challenging career. Not only will you serve God, but you will be able to serve your country as well. If this sounds like a good career fit for you, listed below are a few tips on how to become an Army chaplain.
Education plays a crucial role in the career field. The minimum requirement for entry into the field is a masters in divinity or other theological related field. You must have at least 72 semester hours in an accredited graduate level program.
Education is not the only requirement, however. Since you will be actually joining a branch of the military, there are other restrictions as well. You must be between 21 and 42 at the beginning of your service with the Army. As with all military careers, if there is a shortage in a specific denomination, this requirement may be waived.
You must also be physically fit for duty. This will include passing a physical fitness test and a routine physical exam. There will also be a background check, and in some instances, a security clearance investigation.
Contact your local recruiting office for the latest list of requirements for joining the chaplain team. Some of the larger offices even have a team devoted specifically to chaplain recruiting. The Army's website is also a great source of information about the career field.
