Aerial Mahjong is a modern take on the classic Mahjong Solitaire gameplay. There are over 100 varied levels to play through, as well as five different game types and multiple levels of difficulty. The easier levels are not much of a challenge, but this makes them a great way to relax. Turning up the difficulty makes the game much harder, which can really stretch your brain at times.
Gameplay
At first, Aerial Mahjong might appear similar to other games in the genre. You still match unblocked tiles to clear the board, but Aerial Mahjong has something special up its sleeve. In addition to regular tile matching, each level may have special missions to complete. These require you to carry out certain tasks, such as finding a certain set of tiles hidden away. There are also missions to remove rare golden tiles, or to find a buried treasure chest. All of these add to the variety of the game and keep it fun and interesting.
Another important addition are the magical power-up tiles. These are great fun to use, and can really change how you approach certain levels. Each power-up has its own colour, and by matching two tiles with this colour you unlock it. It appears as a button on the left of the screen, and you can use it whenever you want by simply clicking it.
There are 15 different power-ups to use, and they range from the simple to the spectacular. These include getting a hint (great for when you're stuck), or shuffling the entire game board. Some of the more fun powers are the lightning storm, which destroys a number of pairs, and the 15 second rush where you can click any tile to remove it! Can you discover all 15 powers?
Presentation
Graphically, the game isn't too amazing, but it is still attractive. The tiles are clear and easy to see, with an almost cartoon-like appearance at times. The main game areas is simple, but shows everything you need to know. The special effects are fun to watch too, with lightning bolts striking at tiles and plenty of sparkles along the way.
