I have played imperial guard for a year , and I bored of holding the line, people always deep strike and infiltrate , and if they don't, they shoot me to death even the orks pwn me in shooting, now in fifth edition the leman russ is so sensative to close combat , And I can't hold the line in apoculipse because of las guns and a shitty profle on guard ,I 'm think about abandoning the imperial guard so I'm asking which Army can pwn any thing AND PLEASE DON"T SAY SM , 2 many people play them ( NO WHITE DWARF ARMIES!) So PLEASE HELP ME PICK AN ARMIE!!!!!! THAT DOES THE INSANE!!!!!!
First of all, I'd say "stick with the Imperial Guard", but you need to work on your army list. I'm guessing you've invested lots of points in tooled-up tanks with all the trimmings and sponson weapons. This will leave you only limited points for those essential Troops choices to seize objectives, plus giving your opponent the chance to wipe out a large chunk of your points investment in a single shot.
Lose any sponson guns and drop every vehicle upgrade except smoke launchers. Have at least three Leman Russ tanks. Demolishers look good on paper but struggle against anything with decent ranged firepower (like marines, Tau and Eldar).
Next, you need to max out your troops choices. Forget Conscripts and be careful using Iron Fist squads - they might have mobility but are vulnerable to being over-extended too early in the game.
Lasguns can certainly do horrendous damage when deployed in sufficient numbers, but a heavy support platoon or two won't go amiss when it comes to holding ground. And when it comes to Imperial Guard armies, the key is "mutual support". Any one squad should have at least two other squads able to launch counter-charges or to lay down inter-locking fields of fire.
The new "run" rules will be essential in helping IG platoons reach objectives under tank-based supporting fire, with echelon firepower from the support squads. Move squads in "pepper pot" fashion: one moves with two firing and then one firing with two moving (or two and two if you can afford the points).
If you can afford the points, deploy an Enginseer behind one or more tanks to keep them moving. "Immobilized" results are much more common now.
If you're determined to move on from Guard, though, why not look at the Inquisition armies? You can expend a relatively small amount of money and use your existing models as Inducted Guard and Inquisition Storm Troopers as you build up your collection. Plus you get access to lots of lovely powered armour and new toys.
