Female imperial guard?
Hi. I'm planning to start a fanfic based in the 40k universe. It is planned to have a layout and writing style as starship troopers so, are there any confirmed instances in canon with a female IG soldier? I know there are the Sister of Battle, Sisters of Silence, and female Commissars and Inquisitors, but can find no normal soldier, and I know a fair bit of the 40k background
I think there were some female guardsmen in the First and Only novels. Thumbing through my old 3rd edition codex they had sketches for various guard regiments. The Dneipr Chimera Crew art has a woman driver (how long before it crashed lululululul. Sorry...) and the art for the Xenonia regiment shows a woman. All it says about them is "Location: Xenonia, Fierce fighters. No remorse. No mercy. Serve the Emperor well."
There was also a woman model in the old Schaeffer's Last Chancers box set. I think the 2nd edition rules had an entry where you could field *just* the Last Chancers as your entire army and gave them special rules, but I don't have that book any more so I couldn't tell you what she did. Just that in 3rd edition's old codex she counted as a regular trooper with a lasgun and two close combat weapons. Oh, and her crime was being part of a banned religious sect "Artemis cult."
Last thing I can think of that's canon, albeit it takes a tenuous leap of logic, is that Necromunda fills its regimental duties by recruiting directly from the gangs in the Underhive. House Escher's gangs are 100% women, so it's likely that there are women in their regiments.
In general, though, I think it's safe to say that the Imperium is big enough that somewhere there's a planet that's going to be cool with mixing the genders in combat roles.
