Buying a souvenir , for a professor you haven't seen before....?
i haven't seen my prof. who accepted me for a master position in Canada. which one of the following options is the best for him as gift ,in your opnion :
1- special candies from my countries
2- handicrafts like handmade borad game chess (is it routine gift to a Candian prof) ?
i thought it's not polite to not giving him anything from my country, while he offered me to pick me up at the airpot and i wrote to him for more than 3 months about my different scientific and visa problems....do you think it's better to buy sth for him or not?
If the professor is going to be teaching you, do not offer him a gift. He won't take it anyway.
With a gift there is always the possibility that people would say you bribed him for good grades, likewise, if the professor accepted the gift, people could say he was favoring students.
Wait until the end of the semester, or whenever he is not in authority over you anymore, when you are no longer a student of his, it is appropriate to give a gift.
