Get cash or credit for used fashions- Attention fashionistas! Plato's Closet is an "upscale" thrift store that will pay you cash or store credit for your gently used, in-style, and in-season clothing, shoes and accessories. They love brand names, ladies so raid your closets of everything you haven't worn in a year (If it's been that long, you won't miss it) and bring it in for cash.
For the tried-it-all athlete- Make cash out of your outgrown sports equipment at Play it Again Sports, or used the back pages of local buy/sell/trade newspapers, and of course there is a section for sports equipment on Craigslist.
College Students and Graduates- Sell or "rent" out last semester's textbooks to students that will be taking that course soon. It's a win-win situation here. College students tend to be on tight budgets, and cut corners anywhere they can so the used books will be in demand, ending up with the seller having extra cash in his or her pockets, and the buyer/renter will walk away happy knowing they saved some pretty significant cash too. A single, brand new text-book has a price tag up to $250, that has no real importance or value to the original buyer beyond its purpose in the adjacent course. With college students spending around four years in school(more for some degrees), and the textbook for each course costing upwards of $200-250 a pop, you do the math. There are stores located both on and off campus, or you can put an ad in the newspaper, in a high-traffic area on campus such as the library, or the internet.
For all types of media- Books, CDs, DVDs, computer and video games, and your older things like VHS tapes, cassette tapes, 45's 7' vinyl records, magazines and pretty much any media outlet you can think of are bought sold and traded at Half Price Books. If you've got any form of unwanted media, this is the go-to place for fast cash. You simply bring your media material to the "sell" counter, and the clerk will ask you for your name and photo I.D., and give you an estimated amount of time before your offer is ready. You never have to wait too long, but obviously the more people in the store selling the longer the wait will be, so if you are in a hurry its a good idea to skip peak hours (lunch break, after work) to make sure you and your cash get in and out swiftly. While you are waiting for an offer, they ask that you stay in the store, but hey it sure beats a boring and stuffy waiting room. During your short wait, you can browse their selection of books in your favorite genre. When your offer is ready, they will announce your name over a loudspeaker and ask that you return to the "sell" counter. An offer will be made you can either take or have your items returned to you.
Do keep in mind a few things:
1. There is no haggling, you can either take or leave the offer they give you.
2. The offer is on the entire lot, not giving a specific value on each and every item. So, if you have an item of sentimental value you will only part with if the price is right, leave it at home. Read the Frequently Asked Questions on Half Price Books website prior to selling.
