The chill of winter often brings out board games and puzzles which don't see as much action during other seasons of the year. If you are feeling a little overwhelmed by random game and puzzle parts, or if you can't play the game you would prefer because it is missing pieces, read on to find out a couple of suggestions which might be useful.
Board games look so new when they first come out of the box. Here is one way to preserve some of that newness:
• Remove the game boards from the boxes and stack them on a shelf.
• Store the game parts in a tool parts cabinet. Since the tool parts cabinet will be used to store pieces from various games, make sure to label the drawer(s).
• Photocopy the game directions.
• Put directions in alphabetical order in a binder. For extra durability, you can store the directions in sheet protectors within the binder.
If puzzles are something that help you pass the time during the winter months, this storage solution might work well for you. Purchase a plastic drawer cart with the number of drawers appropriate to the number of puzzles you have. Choose drawer size according to the largest size puzzle box. Remove the puzzle pieces from one box. Mark the back of each piece with a marker, crayon, or colored sticky dot. Yes, this takes some time, but it will reduce aggravation if puzzle pieces get misplaced. Cut out the picture of the completed puzzle and attach it to the bottom of a drawer. Put the puzzle pieces in the drawer. Repeat with remaining puzzles. Next time you want to work on a puzzle, pull out the drawer and dump out the pieces and get to work.
A little time spent storing games and puzzles in an easily retrievable method will save much frustration down the line.
