A few months ago I received an enquiry for 20000 capped promotional pens. Enquiries like this do not come in every day and I was intrigued as to why she insisted on capped ink pens.
The woman said that she held social media training courses nationwide and hated the sound of people clicking their pens.
"It is okay when it is just a few people, but when you have a crowded audience of pen clickers the resulting click, click, clicking can be very distracting!" She said laughing.
Push button ball pens are no where near as loud as they used to be but she seemed to have a little insider knowledge and only capped pens would do. The good news is that there are many makes available from budget capped pens to eco friendly and midrange capped pens. Promotional capped ball pens usually offer nice large print areas for your logo and details.
My customer decided to go a bit upmarket and chose the Parker Vector Rollerball pen. These promotional pens look fantastic printed in full colour. She had her own logo and a few popular social network brand logos printed on her pens along with her contact details.
As Parker Vector pens offer a wrap around print area, she also used this space to print a discount code for recommending future students. Anyone who recommended her classes to others would receive a free copy of her book on social marketing. The recommended new students for the one day course would receive a 10% discount.
No, she did not order 20000. In the end she decided to go for Parker brand quality rather than quantity. My customer ordered 2500 to test the water with the view to ordering more in the future.
Guess what! She has just placed a repeat order and she loves the pens. She gave them away to each of her students along with a good quality note pad. The referral offer has been a tremendous success.
For those of you who do not want to go to the expense of the Parker Vector, look into the Bic Grip Rollerball. I really like this pen and it is a fraction of the cost of the Parker. Bic also produces a range of low cost capped stick pens that are available in a large selection of cap and barrel colours.
I recommend really taking some time to look at what is available to you. One of my favourites is the new EnviroStick Pen by Lecce Pen.
