The iPhone 4 is one of the most advanced, mass-produced mobile devices in this world today. The attraction of the iPhone, compared to other smartphones, is the limitless boundaries that the App Store provides. Anyone who knows how can create an app, so everything has been thought of, made, and put on the app store because the "idea team" for apps is the biggest anywhere: it's the community. The android phones have 4G network capabilities, yes, but can Androids actually compete with the continuously growing selection of apps that the iPhone has? That's the question that pushed me to choosing the iPhone. Apple knows it, judging by their commercials (showing off cool apps that they have) and so do a lot of people using the iPhone 4.

So I bought the iPhone 4, and honestly I spent a good hour doing almost no customization. I couldn't figure out where to start. Well with some research, I came up with a list of non-jail broken apps that realize at least a large amount of the iPhone's potential.

My first app was a new browser: Skyfire. Skyfire is a great app because it supports flash in a very well put together format, using a live buffering method based on your 3G connection. Plus, if you're one of the people who freak about the annoying phone-browser format for websites (for instance, with Safari it's hard to sign in to certain sites), than Skyfire acts as a complete computer browser, showing every bit of the real page. Price: $2.99 (US)
The second app: Dropbox. Dropbox is exactly what it sounds like: an online storage space to link files between your computer and your phone. After downloading th app, you also download Dropbox on your computer and link them through a Dropbox account. Then, any file you drag into you're Dropbox folder on your computer can be opened on your phone. Dropbox is completely free unless you want more than 2 GB of online storage space, which is good enough for me. Dropbox also can recognize programs that can help open files that are in your Dropbox, which leads us to app number 3. Price: Free
Office 2 (squared, not the number two), is a very capable app for creating, editing, and viewing Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel files. The interface is useful, with formatting and text sizing options, while the main aspect, compatibility with Microsoft on your computer, is flawless. With Office 2, you are able to open and save both 2003 (.doc) files and 2007 (.docx) files. This app is easily the best document editor out there, as it is relatively cheap while it performs just the way you need. Price: 5.99 (compared to 9.99 and 14.99 prices for other apps that do the same thing)
The fourth app: Facebook (if applicable). The Facebook app is very useful, and has an accessible interface that enables you to use Facebook just like you would on your computer.For the traffic that Facebook users can receive, it performs brilliantly, updating constantly and cutting down lag with the 3G service. Price: Free
The fifth: Shazam. Shazam is a great app that, when activated, listens to the music that you're playing (on the radio or something) and spits out as much information as it can about the song, such as name, artist, lyrics, etc. Shazam is very helpful and I would definitely recommend it (obviously). Price: Free (or 5.99 for encore edition)
The sixth: AroundMe. AroundMe is an interface that searches for almost anything (based on category) according to your location. Need a quick bite to eat? Just click the category in the easy-to-use interface. Not only does it feel cool to use, but it is also pretty helpful, especially out of state. Price: Free
My last set of suggested apps contains basically anything Google created. Google apps are thoroughly integrated to work fantastically with the iPhone and all provide great use. I suggest you use any one of them, but if I had to choose two they would be Google Earth and Google Search.

All of these apps are used regularly by me and I find all of these a productive use of my time. In fact I used Office 2 and Dropbox to write a good portion of this article!

Now an obvious question would be, "What about the games?" and I can say that I have a large number of game apps on my iPhone 4 as well, but suggesting them would be touchy. Some people like strategy games, while others consider strategy boring and simple games more attractive. For games, it quite simply is all about taste.
