A Question on Religion?

I have researched and studied 5 religions so far: Monotheistic religions (Islam, Christianity, & Judaism) & eastern religions (Hinduism and Buddhism). What strikes me the most is that out of all the religions Buddhism confused me the most. According to books & the temples I visited, as well as the classes i have taken Buddhism is a quest for Nirvana. Nirvana is attained by: dis-attachment of all desires in order to obtain the state of ultimate bliss. It is freedom from the endless cycle of personal reincarnations, with their consequent suffering, as a result of the extinction of individual passion, hatred, and delusion. Now here is where my confusion lies: A Buddhist strives throughout their lifetime to achieve the state of nirvana because that is their goal. In order to obtain this state one has to dis-attach ones soul from all desires and attachments. Isn't that a desire in itself to want to reach nirvana? you cant get nirvana when you have a desire!

Very true. I guess you can't get it if you want it. Kind of like the Philosopher's Stone, eh?

All religions are confusing. Until you realize that, you'll be confused.
