Carrion Wind is a unique Ring, and like Dwarf Star and Raven Frost, you can probably tell from its name alone which Resistance it deals with. If you guessed Poison, well, you've guessed right. Let's take a look at Carrion Wind's stats below and see whether it is a useful Ring:

Poison Nova is a Poison Skill from the Necromancers Poison and Bone Skill Tree. It causes a ring of poisonous gas to explode in a circular blast all around the Necromancer, causing Poison Damage over a duration of 2 seconds, and also looking very cool on the screen.
A Level 10 Poison Nova does 194-236 Poison damage within the fixed duration of 2 seconds.
Since melee characters tend to be involved in the thick of battle, they would get struck very often, and thus, this would be a good mod to have on a melee character, as it would trigger on 10% of all the successful hits they receive.
8% Chance to Cast Level 13 Twister on Striking
Twister is a spell from the Druid's Elemental Skills Tree. It casts several small whirlwinds that crash into the Druid's enemies, dealing Physical damage as well as Stunning targets by 0.4 seconds. The Stunning duration is fixed by the Physical damage depends on Twister's Level.
A 13 Level Twister does 37-39 Physical Damage.
Since this mod's conditional trigger is On Striking, it would go well with melee characters who love to deal out physical damage.

Life Leech is always a welcome mod for Melee characters.
+100-160 Defense vs. Missile (varies)
Provides a good all round Defense boost when facing enemy long-range fire.
Poison Resist +55%
Like its name would imply, Carrion Wind deals with Poison Resistance. 55% is a massive boost to your character Poison Resistance.
10% Damage Taken Goes to Mana
Good for melee characters who rely on Mana-draining Skills as their primary attack Skill, as they tend to receive more hits than casters.
Level 21 Poison Creeper (15 Charges)
If you have the exorbitant amount of money needed to recharge this at the Blacksmiths, a Level 21 Poison Creeper can be a very good Summons. It travels through the ground and poisons any hostile creatures within the area.
Summary:
Looking at the mods of Carrion Wind, it appears that it would be a suitable ring for melee characters who was looking for both good Life Leech and huge Poison Resistance.
