What happens if a weapon in warhammer 40,000 has the same AP as the armour save of the target?

my dilemma: i have got an airbursting fragmentation launcher for my crisis battlesuit commander in my Warhammer 40k Tau army.Firstly, what does a range of G18 mean? Secondly: what do you do when the AP of the weapon is the same as the armour save of the target? Thirdly, I am not a geek, I in fact do Free running, one of the coolest sports in the world. anybody who doesn't know what free running is, please look it up on the web.

LOL! No need to be defensive about geekery! You should be as proud of your interest in the 40k hobby as you are of your free-running.

First of all, G18 means it has a "Guess" range. You decide how far you want to fire the weapon up to the maximum (18" in this case) and place the template (or other marker) at that point. You then measure the *actual* distance and - if you were wrong - move the marker to that point. So if you think your target is 12" away, place a marker by the target and then measure the distance to it. If the target is actually 14" away, you then move the marker back to the 12" point.

The AP of a weapon describes the Armour Save that the weapon will defeat. So an AP 5 weapon will beat an armour save of 5+ or 6+. An AP 3 weapon will beat an armour save of 3+, 4+, 5+ or 6+.
