With this year seeing the release of Toy Story 3, a new Buzz Lightyear model is not unexpected, hence the arrival of the Jet Pack Buzz Lightyear. If you haven't seen any of the movies, Buzz is the character of the spaceman, and as the movie unfolds he helps Andy to save the other toys from being destroyed.
Toy Story was first released 15 years ago, and Buzz Lightyear has been there from the beginning. A lot of today's parents might have had Woody or Buzz themselves, and now they are buying him for their own children. Toy Story 1 and 2 were both massive hits at the box office, and number 3 is expected to be just as huge. In Toy Story 3, Andy, who if you don't know is the owner of all the toys, is now grown up and at college. Although he has stored his toys in the attic, they have found their way to a nursery and come under the control of a dictator bear, Lotso Huggin. Lotso re-programs Buzz back to original mode so he forgets that Woody and the other toys are his friends. Because of this he helps Lotso to keep the toys captive, while also trying to woo a cowgirl called Jessie.
This Jet Pack Buzz Light year model really does look like the Buzz in the movie, and this in itself will make him a big hit. But even better, he has over 60 different phrases and his voice sounds just as it does in the film. He has two modes, toy mode, where he sounds like any other talking toy, and Space Ranger mode, where he seems to come alive. He will even have a moan at you if you are too rough with him. He has space wings with flashing red and green lights on each one, and his laser light weapon. And of course he has his command flip up module on his arm, which flips up and bleeps.
It is hard to criticize this Buzz Lightyear toy, as it is so like the real thing, if you know what I mean! Some people might miss him doing the karate chop, which he does in the movie, and he doesn't do any Spanish dancing, either. Mind you, in Toy Story 3 Buzz attempted to woo Jessie by doing the flamenco, but it really wasn't his best move.
If your child is a fan of Toy Story 3, it would be worthwhile getting numbers 1 and 2 on DVD, so they can enjoy the whole series. Both adults and children love this story.
You can buy other characters from the film, including Woody, Jessie and Lotso Huggin bear and add to your collection. There is not much more to say, except that the Jet Pack Buzz Lightyear model will be top of the best sellers list in toys this year.
