how do you paint warhammer cadian ?
hi i brought battleforce warhammer 40k can you help me i want to know how to paint them thx!
Well, your two best starting points are to get the books "How to Paint Citadel Miniatures" and "Codex: Imperial Guard". The first is a great introduction to the techniques of painting wargaming miniatures in general. The second contains the rules for using Cadian miniatures in the game, but also has a two page spread of alternative paint schemes for these versatile models.
Both books are available from http://uk.games-workshop.com (you can find the sites for other countries from this site, too) as well as from your local GW Hobby Centre.
If you'd like more interactive help, you can find loads of inspiration at http://www.coolminiornot.com and a thriving community of experienced and beginner painters at http://www.warseer.com .
To get you started, I share some simple advice from my own experience.
First, cut away the models from the plastic sprue with a pair of plastic cutters or a craft knife. Then use the knife and a needle file to clean away the mould lines. You might want to give your sprue a quick wash in some soapy water before you cut away the models, as this can help get rid of any lingering release agent that stops paint from sticking to the plastic.
Then you'll want to glue your models together. Use plastic or super glue - either is fine and both are nice and quick. With Imperial Guard, you'll want to make sure you match up the right arms, as not all right and left arms go together. Once you've glued your model to its base, you might want to add some sand or flock - or you can leave this till later.
Undercoating can be done by hand, but it is easier by far to use a spray primer, with the miniatures placed inside a cardboard box or on some newspaper. This also give a much better finish that undercoating by hand. The best undercoat for a beginner is black, although grey or white are also possible.
Use Citadel Foundation Paints to apply your base coats using a size 0 sable brush (you can get these from Games Workshop, but any arts shop will stock them, too). Foundation paints need to be watered down slightly to use or else they dry quickly and go a bit blobby. But for base coats over black, nothing can beat them.
Highlighting and shading are advanced techniques you can find explained in "How to Paint Citadel Miniatures".
Basing is done by painting the base with some PVA glue and then dipping the model into some sand or flock. This can then simply be left or can be painted as well.
Have fun!
