Hormone therapy eliminates or suppresses the most important male hormone, testosterone, which makes the prostate gland get bigger and fuels the growth of any prostate cell, healthy and cancerous - testosterone doesn't discriminate. Hormone therapy stops or slows the growth of cancer cells and keeps those cells from spreading.
If hormone therapy doesn't take care of your testosterone problem, chemicals might do the job ( i.e..; chemical castration). Better hope it works because the alternative is pretty damn ugly.
I'm talking real serious, invasive surgery - like leaving the hospital without your gonads and with a voice like a Wizard of Oz munchkin. Urologists call this surgery an "orchidectomy" which is med- talk for cutting-off-your-testicles. If your friends ask what kind of surgery you had, you can tell them you had an orchidectomy. They'll look at you, without the foggiest idea of what an orchidectomy is, and will be too afraid to ask because they don't want you to think they're stupid. It's also called "salvage" therapy. (Webster's new Universal unabridged dictionary defines "salvage" as the act of saving a ship or its cargo from perils of the seas. Clipping off a guy's testicles is salvage?).
Okay, so you had your jewels removed and you miss them - so what can you do?
Get new ones, of course. They're made from silicon (they don't leak) and they come in three sizes small, medium and large - and if you're a big, macho dude don't even think "large" because they're heavier than the original equipment, and you can imagine what kind of problems this could create.
The surgery will be done under general anesthesia. The surgeon can use the same incision that was made when you had your "salvage" therapy- he'll put your new silicon replacements where the old equipment used to be, sew it up and you're ready to go. The bad news is that you'll probably spend the night in the hospital.
And, of course, a surgery isn't a surgery without problems. Your scrotum is loaded with blood vessels, which means there will be blood and you will be bruised "down there". Another problem is infection-bacteria love to grow on foreign materials like prostheses ( e.g.; your new gonads). You might also need a second surgery to drain a blood clot.
